IT is ironic that what are perhaps the most quoted words in English literature-“To be, or not to be, that is the question”-are also possibly the most misunderstood words in English literature and that the play from which they come, while it is possibly the most discussed of all Shakespeare’s plays, is also the one whose interpretation is acknowledged to be the most difficult.
